Common Admission Test (CAT) is the most popular entrance exam for pursuing M.B.A. It is conducted by the Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) once every year to select students for their business administration programs. Since 2011 the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science are also selecting students based on this examination. It is also a pre-requisite for admission into more than 100 management institutes around like India Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Management Development Institute, etc. It is a computer based test which has 3 sections in total: Quantitative Ability, Verbal and Reading Comprehension and Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning. The exam is generally held in the month of November / December.
Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a national level entrance exam to get admission to over more than 600 B-Schools. It is conducted by AIMA (All India Management Association). In a year four times this exam is held: February, May, September and December. A candidate should at least be a graduate in any stream or Final year exam appearing in order to sit for this exam. There is no age limit for sitting in this exam. A candidate can either sit for online or paper based test. 200 objective questions come from various areas: Quantitative aptitude and Maths, Logical & Critical Reasoning, Data Analysis & Sufficiency, Data Analysis & Sufficiency, General Knowledge, General English Language and Comprehension. The total marks are 800 but in order to make the cut one have to score more than 500. (Christ, Bangalore, ITM, Navi Mumbai)
The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is an all-India test conducted by Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI) as an entrance exam for admission to the post-graduate programs in management courses of several management institutes all over India. It is usually a paper based aptitude test which is held once every year, particularly in the month of January. Most of the prominent B-schools that take the XAT score into consideration are: XLRI, XIME, GIM, S.P Jain, and XIMB. A candidate must be a graduate or final year result awaiting in order to sit for this exam.
Candidates who aspire to join the M.B.A programs offered by institutes of Symbiosis International University have to take a mandatory Symbiosis National Aptitude (SNAP) test. It is an objective test of 2 hours durations. It is held in the month of December. The exam is of total 150 marks and every wrong answer carries 25% negative marks. There are in total 4 sections:
1. General English
2. Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data sufficiency
3. Current affairs
4. Analytical & Logical Reasoning.
Common Management Aptitude Test (CMAT) is a national level management entrance exam conducted by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to admit candidates to different public and private B-schools which offer M.B.A and Post-graduate Diploma in Management. It is a three hours online based test to evaluate the candidates’ abilities across various segments like Quantitative Technique, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension and General Awareness. It is usually held in the month of January. Final year students of Graduate Courses (10+2+3) whose result will be declared before commencement of admission for any session can also apply for CMAT online exam. MAH CET is one of the most important examinations if you wish to secure a seat in an MBA College especially in Maharashtra State. The Directorate of Technical Education, Mumbai conducts the MAH CET MBA for Admission to Maharashtra MBA/MMS Programs. it is a computer based test. It is held in the month of March. (Pune University, Welingkar)

ICFAI Business Studies Aptitude Test (IBSAT) is an aptitude test conducted by the ICFAI Group with schools in most metros and business centres for students seeking admission to management programmes. The test is across various test centres all over the country. (IBS- Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune). Graduates (in any discipline) in English medium with minimum 50% marks are eligible to sit for this exam. It is usually held in the month of December. IBSAT is a multiple-choice-questions-based test for 2 hours duration. It tests the applicant’s ability in quantitative techniques, data interpretation, data adequacy, vocabulary, analytical reasoning and reading comprehension.
NMAT by GMAC is an MBA entrance exam conducted by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). The exam selects candidates for admission to NMIMS University and 15 other B-schools across India. GMAC in 2015 acquired the NMAT exam in India from the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS). NMAT will comprise the following: The final selection is based on NMAT Score, Written Test marks (as applicable), Group Discussion, Personal Interview, Presentation (as applicable) and work experience. It is usually held within the window of October to December.
The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) conducts a written test for students seeking admission to International Business at the institute. At present, IIFT has two campuses: one in New Delhi and another in Kolkata. IIFT has also applied with the Ministry of Education to become a nodal agency for conducting the IIFT test. However, the confirmation is pending from the government. IIFT is an autonomous organisation set up by Government of India. The written test is conducted across different cities. It is usually held in the month of Nov/Dec. The entrance examination is a multiple choice objective type written test of 2 hours duration. It consists of sections: 1. English Comprehension, 2. General Knowledge & Awareness, 3. Logical Reasoning, 4. Quantitative Analysis. Candidates will be short-listed based on the Written Test followed by Group Discussion, Interview and Essay Writing for final selection.
MICA: (Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmedabad)
The MICA Admissions Test (MICAT) is the mandatory entrance exam for MICA’s PGDM-C. The MICAT is a validated multidimensional examination which assesses a candidate in areas relevant and crucial for a career in Strategic Marketing and Communication, such as: Divergent thinking abilities, Written Communication abilities, General Awareness, Analytical and verbal abilities.
